Interphase cytogenetics enables detection of chromosomal unbalance at the interphase nuclei without the necessity to obtain and analyse metaphases. Thus it is a method of choice in routine diagnostics of constitutional and non-constitutional chromosomal aberrations, when it is necessary to decrease the time of waiting for test outcome, as well as in cases in which it is difficult to obtain meta phase chromosomes of appropriate quality. The presented report approaches selected applications of interphase cytogenetics which may commonly be used in cytogenetic laboratories in the course of prenatal diagnostics (prenatal interphase cytogenetics), pre-conceptive (interphase cytogenetics of spermatozoon heads) and neoplastic (followiang the example of cytogenetic analysis of haematopoietic system neoplasms).
