Background: Hand function disorders are common in stroke patients and limit the ability to perform everyday activities. The aim of this study was to assess the results of using the NDT-Bobath method in the hand function rehabilitation of adult patients after ischaemic stroke.
Material/Methods: The investigated group consisted of 60 ischaemic stroke patients participating in a programme of rehabilitation consisting of 10 sessions of NDT-Bobath therapy during 2 weeks. Measurement of hand function using part of the Bobath Scale were performed in every patient on admission and after the last session of the therapy to assess rehabilitation effects.
Results: Among patients involved in the study results were as follows: • recovery in 55 cases (91.66%), • relapse: not stated, • no measurable changes in 2 cases (3.33%).
Conclusions: The NDT-Bobath method for adults is an effective hand function therapy in adult patients after ischaemic stroke. There were statistically significant and favorable changes in health status of patients, as described by the Bobath Scale outcomes.
