Thrombocytopenia and systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) in the course of rubella and Chlamydia pneumoniae infection in a non-vaccinated 7-years old girl

Viral infections (also bacterial sepsis), hemolytic-uremic syndrome, idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, vaccinations, drugs are well known causes of thrombocytopenia in children. We report a case of thrombocytopenia and SIRS after rubella in a 7 year-old girl associated with Chlamydia pneumoniae infection. The clinical course of the disease was so severe that sepsis was initially suspected.
